Is Lent Just About Giving Something Up?

Image
The good old Lenten season has finally arrived! Which means it’s time for Catholics to buckle down. This is pretty crazy to say, but I consider this my first REAL Lent. Before my reversion, the only thing Lent meant for me was giving something up. And although I was sacrificing something, I didn’t fully understand why. It just seemed like a fun challenge to do at the time. I can see how a big portion of the Catholic society relates to this. Unfortunately, it’s a common thing. I was inspired to write a blog on this topic because I wanted to go a little bit more in depth as to what Catholics are encouraged to do for the Lenten season and why. First, let’s talk about what Lent actually is at its core. Lent is a time of preparation for the passion of Jesus Christ. This includes his suffering, life, death, and resurrection. This is a crucial period in time because it is what our faith stands on. We are called to take a part now to imitate Christ in different ways in our lives. Fun Lenten

Do You Claim To Love God, But Not His Church?

Image
I am bringing this point up because I used to be a person who loved God, but wasn't too crazy about the Catholic church. I thought it was enough to just believe in God. I would think, "I don't need all these rules. God will love me no matter what. I am not too religious, but that doesn't mean I don't love God. I don't like what the church has to say about this topic, but I like what they have to say about that topic."  Here is what they call "cafeteria Catholics". These are Catholics who pick and choose exactly what they like about the church, but go against what they don't like. They go to mass when they feel like it(mostly for Christmas and Easter), they don't really like the idea of confession, they don't have a consistent prayer life, they are indifferent or even rebellious to the church's teachings on human sexuality, the right to life, divorce, etc. The list goes on. There is a huge portion of Catholics who have a mix

Does Satan Believe In The Eucharist?

Image
This might be a bit of a scary topic for some Catholics to want to think about. But as you can probably tell from my other blogs, I don't really sugar coat much. This is probably also a title that confuses you. Trust me, I get it. But hang tight and here me out for a minute. So you are probably aware that people who are practicing Christians usually gather with other believers and worship in some way, shape, or form. This can refer to Catholics, Protestants, Orthodox Christians, Lutherans, etc. They all have different ways of worshiping, but they have one thing in common. They believe and worship Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Keep that in your head. We'll get back to it in a second. Have you ever really thought about Satan? Most of us know that Satan was an angel who did not agree with God's ways and was categorized as "a fallen angel". He prowls about the world seeking the ruins of souls and is the temper of our sins. Just like Christians gather t

If I Want to go to Heaven, Don’t I Just Have to be a Good Person?

Image
This question has been stated over and over again by so many Catholics who think that this is the way to they can get to heaven. I’m writing this because I want you to know that there is way more to it than just “being a good person”. This, in turn, would make you the judge of your own actions. We know there is only one who can judge and that is our Lord. Let’s take a step back a bit. I want to take a look at the Greatest Commandment for a moment. When Jesus came to earth, His main goal was to save humanity from the corruption it had been facing for years prior. In a passage from Matthew 22:36-40 someone questions Jesus saying, “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”. Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ [ a ] 38  This is the first and greatest commandment. 39  And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ [ b ] 40  All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.
